Rufus Lamar Broomfield, AMFT

Life is full of transitions, relationships, and experiences that can leave us feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure of who we are. Whether you’re a teen navigating identity and self-esteem, an adult healing from trauma, or a couple working to rebuild trust and understanding, Lamar offers a supportive, nonjudgmental space to help you heal and grow.
Lamar works with individuals, couples, and teens who are seeking to strengthen relationships, manage overwhelming emotions, or recover from complex trauma, including religious and spiritual trauma. He understands that pain can show up in many forms: anxiety, emotional disconnection, conflict, or a lingering sense of not being “enough.” His goal is to help clients reconnect with their authentic selves, gain clarity, and develop healthier ways of relating, to themselves and others.
Blending evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with mindfulness and spiritual integration, Lamar tailors his approach to each person’s unique story. His work is grounded in compassion, collaboration, and curiosity, meeting clients where they are and helping them move toward balance and self-acceptance.
For teens, Lamar provides a safe space to explore identity, relationships, and life’s pressures with understanding and care. He helps young clients build emotional awareness, resilience, and self-confidence, while equipping parents and families with tools for more supportive communication.
For adults and couples, Lamar guides clients through the challenges of non-monogamy, relational conflict, trauma recovery, and emotional regulation. His integrative approach fosters insight and lasting change, helping clients move beyond old patterns toward meaningful connection and inner peace.
Clients describe Lamar as calm, grounded, and deeply empathetic. He welcomes people from all walks of life, especially those whose experiences don’t always fit traditional norms or expectations. His goal is not just to help you cope, but to help you heal, grow, and thrive.
Evening and weekend appointments are available, allowing flexibility for busy schedules and family commitments.
